Week Twenty-Five
by Asher B. Chancey, BaseballEvolution.com September 24, 2007
It is the last week of the season, and only a couple of things remain in dispute.
The Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, and Indians will all be in the playoffs. But all four teams remain in the running for all important best record in the AL, which under new league rules entitles the winning to team to home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the choice of when to begin their playoff series, the option of forcing the opposing team bat opposite handed throughout the series, and the choice of steak or lobster for the post-game meals.
In the National League, the Brewers go into the final week of the season technically still in the race for the division title. Nevertheless, this week they fall below the Line of Death because, let’s face it, this team ain’t gonna overcome 3.5 games in one week.
Meanwhile, the Wild Card race is wide open, as the Phillies and Padres are neck and neck headed into the final turn, with the Rockies on the inside track looking to make a move after winning eight straight. My guess is Philadelphia by a nose.
I am sure fans of the Phillies and Padres would like me to point out that both teams could win their divisions this week. So there, I did it. Sorry to disappoint but, it ain't gonna happen. (You know I'm feeling saucy when I use the phrase "ain't gonna" twice in one Power Rankings blurb).
I would write more here, but I am entering Day 27 of trying to figure out who my National League MVP is going to be, so I must dedicate all of my available time to that venture.
Without further ado, here are the Week Twenty Five Power Rankings. Enjoy and, as always, feel free to comment.
