Week Twenty-Four
by Asher B. Chancey, BaseballEvolution.com September 10, 2007
I hate it when people say things like, "Boy, we're really getting down to it now - the playoffs, September, my favorite time of the year."
How could the quickly approaching end of the baseball season be your favorite time of the year? How can the chill in the September air (and for all the folks South of the Mason-Dixon Line, it's no joke man, up here in the North, it turns September and the air gets chilly!) not make you depressed!
Baseball season is almost over, and I was just getting warmed up.
I'll just have to console myself with the fact that, with another season in the books, I'll soon have another season full of stats to dig around in and play with. But that is kind of like being happy that the you just saw the season finale of Entourage because now you can watch all the reruns on In Demand - in the absence of new episodes, you'll watch reruns, but you would so rather be watching the new episodes.
Speaking of Entourage, we say goodbye to the Los Angeles Dodgers this week. I said last week that the Dodgers had to win four of six against the Padres and D'Backs in order to stay above the Line of Death, which they did. But the Padres and D'Backs each played well enough to not be hurt by losing to LA, and the Dodgers are just too far back now.
Finally, this week, we take a look at Coors Field. It should come as no surprise that the Rockies have once again this season resurrected the careers of several aging, seemingly past their prime (or in some cases, past their viable playing days) veterans. What is surprising, however, is that the veterans who are restarting their careers are all pitchers! Among the pitchers currently pitching for the Rockies and posting better-than-100 ERA+ are: Jeremy Affeldt, LaTroy Hawkins, Rodrigo Lopez, Matt Herges, Mark Redman, and Jorge Julio! Ramon Ortiz, Elmer Dessens, and Byung-Hyun Kim have also seen action this season, but with little success.
Without further ado, here are the Week Twenty Four Power Rankings. Enjoy and, as always, feel free to comment.
